About Us

Mikvat Shalom was founded in 2008 in Portland, Maine. In 2007, we envisioned a mikvah created and maintained by the entire Jewish community for the Jewish community. Today we are an independent, non-profit organization.

Our mission is to make it possible for all Jews to learn about the mitzvah of mikvah. We encourage the creation of non-traditional rituals and liturgy. Community outreach and education are vital aspects of our purpose. In the coming months, we will offer exciting learning opportunities.

Board of Directors

Our board represents the diversity of practice in Maine Jewry. Members are active in Chabad, Conservative, Reform, Modern Orthodox and Non-Denominational congregations.
